Playa Venao is considered the best beach in Panama for surfing — a first-rate surf destination. The main wave breaks left and right, and there is usually always something to surf on, unlike other places in the area that rely on swells. Mostly empty on weekdays, it's a dream for surfers. Take 1-on-1 lessons; the sandy ground makes it an ideal place for beginners.

A beautiful palm-roofed deck on the beach, with a 180° view of ocean, trees and sand. The sturdy polished teak floor and high roof provide an ideal space for meditation, music or dance. Ask at reception for the weekly yoga schedule. Eco Venao also hosts yoga, surf and other retreat groups — packages can be custom-designed to fit any group.
Choose to go horse riding around our project or along the beach, accompanied by a guide. Please arrange your ride a day in advance at reception.
Our permaculture team has achieved great headway in the restoration of biological and cultural diversity at Eco Venao. The project includes fruit and vegetables, a robust composting system, a grey-water recycling system, an African bee farm, composting toilets with wood chips, amazing plants and a lot of fun.
Nearby Isla Iguana has crystal-clear waters and corals that make it ideal for snorkeling. Several fishing tour agencies around the area will also take you to the best spots.
The route to the viewpoint is 1.5 km and takes around 25 minutes. Along the way you'll get to know the different species of trees and vegetation and — if you're lucky — see the three species of monkeys (howlers, capuchins and spider monkeys). Ask reception for one of our maps, which guide you and identify the tree species. We recommend closed shoes.
If you're looking to simply relax, listen to nature or read a book in a hammock, you're in the perfect place. We have hammocks in various common areas — near the hostel, at the beach bar and at the houses.
